Social Media Overview

Social media can be an effective way to communicate, promote and brand the University of New Orleans to multiple audiences. This guide is produced by the Office of Strategic Communications to help social media managers and supervisors use social media for official university communications.

It is assumed in this document that you have a basic understanding of social media outlets, how to create an account, how to create a page and how to post, tweet, etc. Before creating any social media account, you must submit the Account Registration Form

Social Media Takeovers

If you're interested in doing a takeover, email socialmedia@uno.edu with your department, office or organization name and briefly describe your takeover or event in a few words. Sending a takeover request doesn't guarantee a takeover will be granted.

The Office of Strategic Communications manages the main Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube accounts. Our team builds connections among social media administrators campus-wide and is available to assist and train departments on social networking practices.
