The University of New Orleans (UNO) seeks founding support for one of the most comprehensive developments in its nearly 60-year history: the consolidation of its five well-established arts disciplines—Fine Arts, Music, Theatre, Film and Arts Administration—into a School of the Arts (SOTA). This advancement in interdisciplinary knowledge will enhance all related disciplines and strongly position UNO as a 21st century leader in arts and creativity in the state and region.
Support for this compelling vision, including a naming opportunity for the School of the Arts, will empower UNO to:
- Expand the University’s existing dynamic relationship with the cultural, social and business fabric of the city of New Orleans and state of Louisiana.
- Raise the profile of the arts at UNO to increase enrollment and serve more students in all arts programs.
- Improve student preparation for successful careers through increased collaboration among arts genres.
Added Value for UNO: STEM + ART = STEAM
By creating a School of the Arts, UNO will be positioned to transform its STEM focus and be the first STEAM university in Louisiana. UNO will establish industry-driven STEAM initiatives, and engage STEM and other non-arts programs through the shared value of creativity. Placing arts education alongside STEM education challenges students to develop creative thinking skills with a technical foundation, thus allowing students to become better equipped to succeed.
